In a dressing room in a theater, an actor is putting on his makeup. The twenty minutes that precede his entry on stage. The gestures of putting on makeup in the solitude of his own thoughts.

"I got some experience as a silent voyeur as my friend Sandro Lombardi prepared himself to play the role of Giovanni Testori's Edipus. By spying on the automatic nature of everyday, repetitive gestures, I tried to transcribe the persecutory progress of thoughts that become obsessive" (Mara Chiaretti).

Mara Chiaretti

Mara Chiaretti (Rome, 1935) has always been involved in contemporary art, writing for newspapers and weekly magazines. From 1967 to 1972 she directed the Iolas-Galatea Art Gallery in Rome, where she maintained her activity as art expert until 1982 in her own studio. Since 1992 she has worked as Federico Tiezzi's assistant director in the I Magazzini Theater Company. In 1998 her documentary, Swing Heil! won the Silver Sacher prize at the Rome Sacher Festival. In 1999 her documentary Em Shakulà received the jury's special mention at the Festival Arcipelago. In 2001 she directed the documentary, Davai bistrè! Avanti presto!, produced by Nanni Moretti and Angelo Barbagallo for the series, I diari della Sacher and presented at the Venice Film Festival.
