«NON SARÒ MAI UN UOMO COMUNE». MARADONA E LA SUA VITA

"I WILL NEVER BE A COMMON MAN" - MARADONA AND HIS LIFE

Country: Italy
Year: 2001
Duration: 67'

In this film Diego Maradona blows off some steam for a long time on one of those nights of his life when his greatness and the contradictions of his existence seemed more intolerable than ever. The occasion was offered during 2001 by Milly Carlucci's invitation for him to appear on a RAI television program. What set him off was not this invitation as much as the welcome that he was given at the airport by a group of uniformed Treasury Ministry police who had been ordered to notify him of an injunction for him to pay 50,000,000 lire, mostly in back taxes. Maradona's is a life that is special and exaggerated. Even when he would have done without this life, it has become an intolerable weight for him, a kind of anguish for the ex-champion who is now very vulnerable.

"I Will Never Be a Common Man comes out of Maradona's ability to take on issues courageously and consciously that are not only about soccer but are human, social, and political. These are themes that could not be approached by champions like Totti, Del Piero, Zidane, and Figo, who have surely taken his place in the imaginations of soccer fans all over the world. Maradona's capacity is even more dramatic because he has the greatest soccer player of the century - first of all, on the playing field" (Gianni Min`).
