BADLANDS

BADLANDS
by Terrence Malick
Country: USA
Year: 1973
Duration: 95'

Twenty-five-year-old Kit, a dissatisfied garbage collector from Fort Dupree, South Dakota, is a provincial James Dean. When he meets Holly, who is fifteen years old, he is charmed by her innocence and the two fall in love. But her father is against their relationship and attacks Kit, who kills him cold-bloodedly in front of Holly, who looks on indifferently. The two escape through the badlands of the American Midwest: hunted by the police, they leave a trail of blood behind them. Will their love manage to survive?

Declaration

film director

“The critics talked about influences on the picture and in most cases referred to films I had never seen. My influences were books like The Hardy Boys, Swiss Family Robinson, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, all involving an innocent in a drama over his or her head. I didn’t actually think about those books before I did the script, but it’s obvious to me now.”
