Tommy and his pregnant wife move to the squalid suburb of Edenstown, Ireland. When they are attacked by a group of hooded youths, the woman ends up in a coma and he develops a strong case of agoraphobia. When his wife dies, Tommy finds himself having to protect their little girl from the baby gang which had attacked them. He is helped by a brusque priest, a nurse, and a blind boy. Soon the young father realizes that the only way to overcome his fears and face down the murderous gang is to enter the building where it all began: the disquieting and run-down Citadel.

Ciaran Foy
Ciarán Foy graduated from the National Film School of Ireland. His filmography includes the shorts 1902 (2001), Wired 03:36 (2001), The Puppet (2002), The Faeries of Blackheat Woods (2006), which made him known on the international festival circuit, Scumbot (2007) and the episode feature film Hotel Darklight (2008), for which he directed the segment Lonely Hearts. His debut feature film, Citadel (2012), has won seven awards at festivals all over the world, including the audience award at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival.

“I tend to describe Citadel as a half psychological horror, half autobiography. The autobiographical part stems from my own battles with agoraphobia in my late teens and early twenties, which was the result of a violent and unprovoked attack I endured at the hands of a gang of youths.”
