Three young people live in a Mumbai skyscraper and are determined to make the metropolis their new home. One day, a workman arrives to paint one of the walls; the only one at home is Charu, and she is irritated that her flat mates hadn’t notified her the inconvenience. But a few minutes later, the girl finds the painter lying on the floor, unconscious. Frightened, she immediately takes him to the hospital but the next day she learns that the man, whose name she doesn’t know, has died. To Charu, it is the beginning of a voyage into the poorest quarters of the city, in search of the unknown man’s identity.

Declaration

film director

“We started shooting the film in real locations. The city spoke to us, through her myriad migrant peoples – people who had come here from various parts of the country in search of a better life. The process of making this film revealed unknown urban spaces to me, spaces that are screaming to be heard. Behind our protagonist, our film crew traversed these spaces engaging in the search for the identity of a nameless man, who we were trying to place in the vast anonymity of the city.”
