IL CANALE DEGLI ANGELI

by Francesco Pasinetti
Country: Italy
Year: 1934
Duration: 48'

001 marks the hundredth anniversary of Francesco Pasinetti’s birth. For such occasion, the Veneto Region set up a committee to celebrate this multifaceted Venetian intellectual, who has also been a director, a professor at the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia in Rome, a critic, a playwright, a photographer, and a radio author. Among celebrating the initiatives, a box set containing all the films he directed will be released after many years of research and restauration in collaboration with Cinecittà Luce, Cineteca italiana and Cineteca nazionale. The box set will be accompanied by the book La scoperta del cinema (a collection of essays on his works) and the publication of his thesis, which was the first in Italy (and perhaps in the entire world) to raise cinema among the ranks art forms.

To celebrate this anniversary, the Torino Film Festival will present four movies: Il canale degli angeli (1934), a lyrical documentary on the Venetian lagoon, Città bianca (1942), Lumiei (1948), dedicated to the path of the river in Veneto, and Latte per la città (1949), a film edited by Pasinetti tracing the milk supply chain from the milking phase to distribution.
