ISQAT AL NIZAM - AT THE REGIME BORDER
by Antonio Martino
Country: Italy
Year: 2012

The Syrian spring is a chapter that has yet to be closed and is hard to penetrate completely. The civilians have great hope that Assad’s family will step aside, but their fear is just as great that this won’t happen before the population has been reduced to complete desperation. In the meantime, over twenty thousand civilians have fled to Turkey, while the rebels try to organize themselves through the network and more and more soldiers and officials in command defect to the rebel side.

Declaration

film director

“I wanted to take a deep view of democracy with this film. Through the lens of video activists whose cameras witnessed thousand of people killed during the brutal Syrian Goverment repression from one side, and through the hope of young revolutionaries who experienced nothing but the Assad regime from the other. My own point of view merges together with the extraordinary mixture of images coming from various devices, turning this film into a participatory project.”
