Fishing is a time-honored tradition along the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Depicted even by Melville in Moby Dick, fishing is a metaphor for the eternal clash between man and his environment, a battle for survival in which respect co-exists with fear and instinct transcends rationality. In a hostile and wild landscape, ships head out to the open sea, plowing through menacing waves as seagulls twirl overhead in an often leaden sky, adding a captivating note to the challenge between man, technology and nature, a challenge which has been repeated down through the ages.

Declaration
film director
“Unlike in most documentaries where it’s only the human subjects’ perspective, we wanted to give the same ontological weight to the fishermen and their catch and it spread to the elements as well.”
