Mario and Guido have been friends for decades and their friendship helped them both survive the cancer which had struck them. They are fifty years old now and the moment has come for the two oddball, feisty and inseparable friends to make a final balance of their lives, visiting those places which had cemented their friendship back when they were two twenty-year-old wanderers: the beach of Sabaudia, Perugia, the Forest of Introspective Spirits at Borgotaro. And where does James Bond fit in? Well, Sean Connery, with his perfect tuxedo and vodka martini firmly in hand, has always been their model of reference, their incomparable ideal. Has the moment come to have a chat with him, after all these years?

Mario Balsamo
Mario Balsamo has been working since the late ’90s as a film and television director, involved above all in TV programs, press reports, documentaries and video musicals. His vast filmography includes Un mondo migliore è possibile, a group film with the participation of directors such as Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli and Gillo Pontecorvo, Sotto il cielo di Baghdad, which he codirected with Stefano Scialotti, and Sognavo nuvole colorate, that was screened in Locarno, at the Bellaria Casa Rossa Award and in eleven national and international festival. In 2012 he partecipated at Torino Film Festival with We Are Nothing Like James Bond, which won the Jury Special Prize.

“Getting around is a big like making documentaries: you know where you’ll leave from, but who knows where you’ll end up... So, the question I had thought of in the beginning, ‘Why do we get sick?,’ struck me as increasingly inadequate. It transformed and sublimated itself into the story of a friendship. And cancer is the most authentic setting for it.”
