Chicago, from the 1990s on, has established itself as one of the most interesting cities on a musical level, despite its decentralized position in relation to the West/East Coast dichotomy. The merit goes to people like Steve Albini (journalist, critic and producer, as well as leader of
the group Shellac), David Grubbs, Damon Locks, Ken Vandermark, and Ian Williams, who have given life to a type of sound connected to the architecture of this city where different styles of the underground music scene meet.

Augusto Contento
(Italy) made his first documentary, Onibus, in 2007 in Brazil; which won awards in Bellaria and Sulmona, marked the beginning of his series of films on Brazil, including Tramas and Strade trasparenti – both presented at Locarno in 2008—and Strade d’acqua (2009), presented at the Rencontres internationaux eau et cinéma in Marseille, Brésil en mouvement in Paris, and the Rome Film Festival. At the 2012 Turin Film Festival, he presented Parallax Sounds, shot in Chicago, as was his subsequent film Shadowgram (2016), which received UNESCO’s High Patronage – Routes of Slaves. In 2021, he presented Viaggio nel crepuscolo out of competition at the Venice Film Festival; the film is considered one of the first examples of a “quantum film” due to its narrative structure and sound design.
