A colony of artists stops in a neighborhood in Suzhou to set up their circus act. They will be the last company of travelers who will be able to enjoy that area by the river, since real estate speculators are already planning to transform it into a modern residential district. Superman belongs to a group of young gangsters; they were hired to chase off the last people living in the neighborhood and they end up tormenting in particular the group of circus artists. But the task becomes impossible for Superman to carry out after he meets the circus’ young stripper and falls in love with her.

Zhuo Yan

Yan Zhou (Suzhou, China) earned her Master Degree at the Beijing Film Academy; she made her debut as a director in 2005 with her documentary Father and Father, followed two years later by Cat Mountain, which was selected by the Cinema Digital Seoul Film Festival. She has also worked as a screenwriter, winning an award for best screenplay at the Shanghai Television Festival with her film Toy Train (2007), and as an assistant director to Jia Zhang Ke for 24 City and Cry Me a River. The Lost Land is her first fictional short film.
