SILENT YOUTH

SILENT YOUTH
by Diemo Kemmesies
Country: Germany
Year: 2012
Duration: 73'

Berlin. Kirill and Marlo are two young men walking side by side, wordlessly. Their silence is hiding something: the need to reveal their own identity, the desire to get to know each other and express their feelings. But the more Kirill opens up to Marlo, the more Marlo seems confused, undecided. But the point where the words end is where the desire to remain together begins. But how can they communicate what the voice alone cannot express?

Declaration

film director

“A love story between two men is undoubtedly labeled a gay movie. Specifically, however, I wanted to tell the story of two persons meeting, both hindered by a sort of emotional autism. So perhaps my film should be considered as a story on emotional autism instead… In my opinion, the characters’ autism is more important than their sexual orientation. Sure, the main theme is about two men who kiss on screen, which therefore makes it a gay film. But if you go beyond that, the perspective changes and you realize it’s simply about getting to know two persons.”
