Kate and Charlie’s lives seem to be immune to the ennui and routine of other married couples; they both love listening to music, having fun and drinking until they lose control. But when this penchant for alcohol threatens Kate’s job as an elementary school teacher, she decides to join Alcoholics Anonymous. Charlie tries to support this decision of hers but they both underestimate the difficult path the young woman has chosen and, above all, they don’t realize that she will have to confront difficult aspects of her life that also include her relationship with her husband.

So many films that deal with substance abuse follow a familiar ‘scared straight’ path, depicting characters so damaged that they’re not relatable, leaving the audience with nothing to do but gawk at their otherness.”
