STARLET
by Sean Baker
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Duration: 103'

Jane is twenty-one years old and has just moved to California to make a career in porn films. Her days are all alike, sharing joints with her roommates and cuddling her Chihuahua, Starlet. Then one day, she buys an old thermos at a flea market and finds ten thousand dollars hidden inside it. The thermos was sold to her by Sadie, an old widow who lives alone and who had bickered with Jane. After her initial surprise wears off, Jane becomes curious to discover what lies behind that lucky discovery. The only way to find out is to go back to Sadie, who at first is suspicious and scornful. But an unexpected friendship soon develops between the two, bringing the past back to life and revealing hidden secrets.

film director

“I didn’t have an assistant director, crew members wore many hats, and we had only a certain percentage of control over every shooting situation... which always welcomes chaos and at the same time happy accidents that make it all worth it.”
