An island in the middle of the river is off-limits for three young brothers, but one day at sunset they decide to go there secretly. Upon their arrival, they discover a world of ballerinas, musicians, tricksters and drunkards in search of a fight, all wandering around like a big parade of human vices. But where the lights are low and silence replaces the sound of merrymaking, they find people who have chosen the island not just as a stage, but as their home.

Turner Ross
Turner Ross (Sidney, OH, USA, 1982) has worked as art department assistant on various films, such as Sky High (2005), The Skeleton Key (2005), Idiocracy (2006), Déjà vu (2006) and My Own Love Song (2009), as well as on the TV series The Riches. 45365, which he co-directed with his brother Bill, was his first feature film.

Bill Ross IV (Sidney, OH, USA, 1980) has made many shorts, both documentary and fiction, and has also taught film technique to elementary and high school students. His first feature film, 45365, was presented at the 2009 Torino Film Festival, won the Jury Prize at the South by Southwest festival and the Truer Than Fiction prize at the 2010 Independent Spirit Awards.

“The impulse to go about making what became Tchoupitoulas was borne out of memories from our childhood: wandering the carnival streets of New Orleans, dazzled by the vibrancy of the night, of the mystery emanating from the open doors spilling life out onto the streets. It was a far cry from our other home in the cornfields of Ohio. We wanted to find that again. Most of all, Tchoupitoulas is an artifact of an adventure. As with our other films, the number one reason we made it was for the experience.”
