THE LIABILITY

THE LIABILITY
by Craig Viveiros
Country: UK
Year: 2012
Duration: 92'

Influenced by the videogame Grand Theft Auto, twenty-year-old Adam dreams of becoming a killer. Opportunity knocks when his mother’s boyfriend, Pete, finds him a job as a driver for Roy, a professional hit man about to carry out his last homicide, copying the technique of a famous serial killer to throw off the investigators. Everything goes according to plan, until a witness unexpectedly turns up: pretty, young Carly, who the killer and his henchman find themselves forced to eliminate. The hunt for the woman proves to be more difficult than planned and, above all, confirms how, in the world of crime, the hierarchy of the roles is often turned upside down.

Biography

film director

Craig Viveiros

Craig Viveiros (UK), after working in the film industry as a cameraman and light technician, was asked in 2006 to direct a short film produced by Channel 4, StereoStep. After beginning his directing career making shorts and commercials, in 2007 he directed the short Back to Back, selected by London’s Barbican Centre. Ghosted, his debut feature film, participated at last year’s Torino Film Festival, where the male lead, Martin Compston, won best actor. Viveiros then moved to Haiti to work as a volunteer at the country’s film institute and returned to England to make The Liability, his third feature film. In 2010, he and his colleague James Friend founded the production company London Film and Media, with which he is now working on a new project, PickPocket.

Declaration

film director

“I chose an American pop art look. I’ve based a lot of it on American contemporary hyper realists, Richard Estes, John Baeder, and more classical modern American artists like Hopper and his painting Nighthawks. It’s almost like graphic art. It’s not a grim up north movie. It’s a little bit flashy, but the humour and feel is very British, even if it is stylised.”
