WHAT RICHARD DID

WHAT RICHARD DID
by Lenny Abrahamson
Country: Ireland
Year: 2012
Duration: 87'

Richard is a scion from a wealthy neighborhood in Dublin. He is good looking and athletic; he is the most popular boy in school, and he is envied by his friends, whom he is very attached to. Once high school ends, what awaits him is a long summer of fun before university begins. During a party on the beach he meets Lara: winning her over is a child’s play for him. But one evening his world shatters. With a rash gesture, which he never thought he would be capable of, his life and the lives of the people around him plunge into horror. Even though they had always admired him, from that moment on they will look at him differently. A doubt surfaces in his conscience and in the minds of his acquaintances: who is the real Richard?

Declaration

film director

“Most of us know very little about ourselves. This is something that we begin to understand as we get older. But it’s an insight that’s largely hidden from teenagers. In What Richard Did we see teenager having to digest a lifetime’s worth of self-disillusionment in one big blast.”
