I 400 GIORNI - FUNAMBOLI E MAESTRI

At the conclusion of the DO Tour Casting, organized by the DO Cinema agency to scour Italy (Turin, Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples, and Maratea) in search of a new generation of talent, videos of the people they encountered create a mosaic of stories, faces, and emotions. Twenty-four aspiring actors, on a 400-day trip that began the day they auditioned, try their hand at their dream job. And between hope and disappointment, uncertainty and talent, they bring the universal portrait of a generation to life. An experiment that follows the future faces of cinema as they mature, from a professional and - above all – a personal point of view.

“Every frame of I 400 giorni is a cross section of life that shows the audience both the effect of the glittering spotlights, and the intimate and introspective side of a profession that demands commitment and dedication. As a portrait painter, what guided me during the project was the possibility to film actual portraits in real time. Through the smiles, gazes, and the totality of the faces of the participants (in archive clips or shots made for the occasion), I wanted to create a large painting of the acting profession: an ideal bridge between the immobility of a canvas and the dynamism of the moving image” (E.
