In 1973, Ettore Scola made the movie Trevico-Torino - Viaggio nel Fiat-Nam, the story of Fortunato, a young man from southern Italy who searches for work and security in the Italian capital of assembly lines. Ten years later, the director returned to Turin to shoot Vorrei che volo, a propaganda documentary commissioned by the Italian Communist Party. In the movie, the young protagonist Massimino embodies the hope for a better future. Forty years later, Massimino has spent over half of his life between prison and college: the movie about him starts with Scola's two films in a merciless comparison of the past and the present.
