In a valley on the border between Italy and France, a long-standing transit region, the lives of migrants and those of shelter workers intersect. Migrants attempt to cross the border and reach France, aware of the possibility of being turned away at the frontier. Seasons follow one another, the present and the past overlap, and human trajectories meander, suspended in the irreversible act of seeking a better space in which to exist.
Biography

Virginia Bellizzi
a graduate in Media and Journalism, she specialized in Cinema and Television. Subsequently, she worked on the production of several documentary series for TV. Between 2018 and 2020, her projects were selected for the Extended Cinecampus Terre di Cinema and Italian Doc Screenings workshops. She has written and directed several short films that have received various awards and have been featured at national and international festivals. In 2023, she directed her first feature film, Oltre la valle.

“The more time I spent in the valley, the more the space appeared to me as an optical illusion. From the town of Oulx, you can reach France in twenty minutes by car, but if you haven’t got the right document, France can be hours of walking through the mountains away. The camera tried to balance on the border, attempting to capture the contrasts between the abstract nature of the frontier and the determination of all those who embark on their journey every day.”
