IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS

John Carpenter

(Carthage, New York, 1948) ha esordito nel 1974 con il fantascientifico Dark Star, realizzando in seguito tre film a basso budget, Distretto 13 - Le brigate della morte (1976), Halloween - La notte delle streghe (1978) e Fog (1980), che lo hanno imposto tra i registri più rappresentativi del New Horror americano. Nel 1981 ha diretto 1997- Fuga da New York e l’anno successivo La cosa, continuando in seguito ad approfondire la sua ricerca sul cinema horror e di fantascienza. Si conferma tra i massimi rappresentati del genere con i successivi Vampires (1987), Il seme della follia (1994) e Fantasmi da Marte (2001). Tra il 2005 e il 2006 ha realizzato due episodi per la serie televisiva Masters Of Horror. Nel 2010 ha diretto il suo ultimo film per il cinema, The Ward - Il reparto. Nel 1999 il Torino Film Festival ha dedicato una retrospettiva completa ai suoi lavori.
