Lou Jean è una ragazza stramba, ma vuole molto bene al suo bambino: peccato che gliel’abbiano tolto, per affidarlo a una coppia di Sugarland, al confine con il Messico. Così Lou Jean convince il marito a rubare un’auto della polizia, prendere in ostaggio il conducente e attraversare il Texas per andare a riprenderselo. Secondo film di Spielberg, on the road con la scatenata Goldie Hawn, un centinaio di auto della polizia al seguito e ali di folla a fare il tifo per lei lungo la strada. Commedia amara, anticipa i demenziali Blues Brothers.
