THE TERROR OF TINY TOWN

Sam Newfield

(New York, Usa, 1899 – Los Angeles, Usa, 1964) (64 anni), noto anche come Sherman Scott o Peter Stewart, è stato un regista di B-movie americano, uno dei più prolifici nella storia del cinema americano. Nel corso di una carriera cominciata già ai tempi del muto, ha diretto più di 250 lungometraggi, oltre a cortometraggi comici a uno e due rulli, filmati educativi o industriali ed episodi per la tv. A causa di questa massiccia produzione – è arrivato a dirigere più di 20 film in un anno – è stato definito il regista più prolifico dell’era sonora del cinema americano. Molti dei suoi lavori li ha realizzati per la PRC Pictures (Producers Releasing Corporation), la più piccola e meno prestigiosa casa di produzione di Hollywood negli anni ‘40, diretta da suo fratello Sigmund Neufeld. La RPC produceva film a basso budget, per lo più western e a seguire horror e polizieschi. Newfield è stato accreditato come Sherman Scott e Peter Stewart in numerosi film per la RPC, al fine di nascondere il fatto che una sola persona fosse responsabile di così tante regie.
