Maria Jesus is a docu-film: the real story of a Peruvian woman
(playing herself) in the hands of the immigrants dealers.
"We have always been interested in exploring the boundaries between
reality, memory and fiction, starting from daily stories and dramas,
often invisible. Maria Jesus lives again through her drama, she
reinvents it in front of the camera and, playing her memories,
elaborates another time a personal and collective tragedy. The film is
like a confession, intimate and silent, between her and us, between
Maria and her audience" (M. De Serio).
"Maria Jesus is something between the reportage of an event and the tale
of the memory of the same event. Timing of the event and timing of
memory gradually match: Maria cries for what is happening to her
(playing, in fiction), and together with the memory of what has really
happened to her. I believe this is the real advantage of working with
non-professional actors who really put themselves at play - and the
"truth" they have inside - of course" (G. De Serio).
